Glass Expressions
Guaderrama Puts a New Spin on Traditional Glass Art Work
Ivan Guaderrama showcased a new and innovative approach to glass art work, first in the City Hall building of Chihuahua Mexico and a second time in Casa Dorada here in Cabo San Lucas. The new technique came out of a concern from the health issues that developed from the additional technique of creating glass at work. For generations the craft behind the glass art involved high temperatures and medieval inspired Kilns, and while this rendered a beautiful piece it also came with the high cost of serious lung damage.

Guaderrama worked around this and created a technique that cuts out the heat and works with the glass cold, using a variety of colors to create a water effect against the glass work. The glass sculptures often stood taller than a human being, and depending on their location would catch the light in a variety of ways, causing the piece to reinvent itself with every change of lighting.

The pieces also took on Guaderramas signature interactive touch, where the backlights of several different pieces were contoled by touch, clapping, or even voice automated.
With a more humane and environmentally friendly technique and an array of new features Ivan Guaderramas “Glass Expressions” exhibit was a true success. |
