Ivan Guaderrama breaks the rules with fun and creative interactive Paintings.
In 2009 artist Ivan Guaderrama set out to prove that creativity is truly brought forth when rules are broken, that art is not simply a visual experience but an interactive one, and that the more engaged the viewer is the more the essence of that art piece is brought out.
It began with a series of paintings and sculptures which involved sensors, evolving the art work into a hands on experience. The sensors appeared in a wide variety of styles in the art piece, some would control a light implemented in the art piece with the touch of your hand while others were voice activated by illuminating lights with a simple command, some were even motion sensitive where the art would interact from the wave of a hand.
From this point Ivan gradually moved on to art pieces with a musical elements. Some paintings and sculptures contained preprogrammed songs that correlated with the subject of the piece, while others contained a discreet open space to connect your USB cord and play your own personal favorites.
Advancements on this idea is what eventually led to Ivan Guaderrama’s art work going “wireless” through the use of Bluetooth technology. The viewer simplu had to sync their ipod or Bluetooth device to the painting and all of their favorites would be played through a tastefully placed speak behind the painting.
Within the last year, beginning in 2013, Guaderrama has turned his interactive art efforts towards the development of a special heat sensitive paint. The paint began being placed in small cameos in some of Ivan’s portraits, its heat sensitivity causes the paint to disappear due to an increase in temperature. This means through the touch of your hand, your body temperature could cause the paint to momentarily disappear revealing hidden messages that could not be seen other wise. This develops a connection between the viewer and the artist, as the art does not reach its full potential without the interaction of the viewer.
This heat sensitive paint has now grown in Ivan’s most recent production in which an entire painting is done in the specialized paint causing the color to change from one color to the next wherever heat is placed over the painting. Ivan Guaderrams future plans for this new interactive endeavor is to develop a paint so heat sensitive that the colors of the paintings change periodically with a shift n the atmospheres weather, just as the leaves change from season to season.
